Pt. Mohan Lal S.D.College for Girls, Fatehgarh Churian was founded in 2005 to immortalize the memory of Revered Late (Dr.) Pt. Mohan Lal Ji, an immortal luminary, a great freedom fighter, an administrator par excellence, a paradigm of perfection, a harbinger and a true Karamyogi. He was a brilliant exponent of Laws and scriptures, a dedicated, social and political reformer and eminent educationist. He started his career as a leading lawyer from Batala and rose to the position of Home, Finance, Education and Industry Minister of Joint Punjab (1964- 65). He was also the President of Shree Sanatan Dharam Pratinidhi Sabha Punjab (1973-1998) and worked untiredly to raise the standard of the education. It was for his commendable service in the field of education that Guru Nanak Dev University conferred upon him the Honours Causa Degree of Doctor of Philosophy. 

Pandit ji  shouldered  the responsibility by rendering  selfless service to the mankind and disseminated  his ideas of women education and women empowerment. He had a long and illustrious career and has made a significant contribution in  the field of education besides holding responsible posts with an ease and proved to be a rare embodiment of moderation in the turbulent world of politics in Punjab. He remained the member of  lndian National Congress for 15 years with unimpeachable integrity, complete sincerity and  utmost honesty. It was by virtue of his hard work and commitment that he emerged as a brilliant politician whose worth was aptly valued by politicians like Sardar Partap Singh Kairon and Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. He had strong association with former  Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi. He joined President Giani Zial Singh at AICC session. Pandit ji was only  the Cabinet Minister elected  from Batala  Constituency from the  last 54 years.

The college is running under the aegis of 'Goswami Ganesh Dutta College Society, Chandigarh, which was duly registered in 1973 under Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860. The registered office of the Society is located at Goswami Ganesh Dutta S.D. College, Chandigarh, which is sister institute of the college. These educational institutions are the monuments of the vision of a man who strived hard to spread quality education to bring a positive change in society.

 

Late Shri upkar Krishan Sharma ji, The Ex-President of the college management, dedicated his entire life to the college. This collage is the result of his  commendable services to the cause of education. The massion of the college is to provide the higher education to the girls at their  doorsteps in the educationally backward area of Punjab. Sh. Upkar Krishan Sharma ji dedicated son of Pt. Mohan Lal ji followed tread of his father. He took the initiative for the opening of this college. He was a philanthropist under whose dexterous guidance the college achieved spectacular success in past years. The present Governing Body is headed by Ms. Vaishali Sharma, who possesses quintessential quality and exception standards in achieving intellecnial and challenging milestones.  The college is affiliated to Guru Nanak Dev University and accredited by NAAC.The college has adequate infrastructure for motivating the students to come forward in various fields like academics, sports, extracurricular etc. Faculty development programs are organized from time to time. Important days are celebrated. The college has also successfully participated in the different competitions organized by different institutions.    The college has well equipped two computer labs for the students; there is also a student center.The college aims to flourish as a leading and most preferred institute so as to empower women and broaden their mental horizons. The college has qualified faculty and laborious team of administrative staff members who are working incoordination with each other to take the college to the new heights.
